 @richardpl, when i do the below, there is no output.

 0,0 drawbox=x=5:y=2:w=3:h=5:color=invert
 1,1 drawbox=x=6:y=3:w=4:h=5:color=invert

 what i think you mean is the below, but the below has no output as
 well......

 0,0 drawbox=x=5:y=2:w=3:h=5:color=gray
 1,1 drawbox=x=6:y=3:w=4:h=5:color=gray
